Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit

Garland Behavioral Health has a psychiatric intensive care unit (ICU) specifically for patients who are experiencing psychosis or schizophrenia and who may be a danger to themselves or others. Patients in the ICU are monitored 24 hours a day, seven days per week, and undergo intense treatment, which often involves medication, until their condition is stabilized.

The treatments provided to patients in the psychiatric intensive care unit:

  • Are individualized, based on patient needs and developed by the treatment team
  • Includes group, family and individual therapy, as clinically indicated
  • Involve support people as available, appropriate and approved by the patient
  • Focus on a whole person approach, engaging family and the patient’s support system to improve wellness and relapse prevention
Excellence is our standard.
